Disinfectants

Disinfectants are tested and registered chemicals intended for carrying out disinfection. To achieve disinfection operation (the desired microbial effect), disinfectants must interact with microorganisms and only then it can damage or inactivate.The most commonly used disinfectants are chlorine-based compounds and the reason is their residual chlorine effect.

Chlorine

Chlorine (99%),biocide product, is most frequently used in water disinfection.

Cl2+ H20→ H++ Cl-+ HOCl HOCl ↔ H++ OCl-

The concentration of elemental chlorine is negligible when it is added to water in an amount of less than 1 mg / L.

Sodium hypochlorite

Sodium hypochlorite, NaClO (conc. 120-160gr / kg) consisting of a sodium cation (Na +) and anions (ClO-). This compound can be viewed as a sodium salt acid. When dissolved in water it is commonly called bleach. Sodium hypochlorite is practically chemically different from chlorine. Sodium hypochlorite is often used as a disinfectant or an agent for bleaching.

Chlorine dioxide

Chlorine dioxide, a biocidal product, ClO2, chlorine dioxide does not produce free chlorine in order to exercise biocidal function. When chlorine dioxide is used for disinfection, chlorine dioxide molecules assume biocidal function and kill a broad spectrum of bacteria, algae, protozoa, viruses ... During this reaction does not generate by-products like chlorination does.

Peracetic acid

Peracetic acid, C2H4OH, a biocide, a disinfectant based on peracetic acid, at least 15%. - destroys viruses, bacteria and fungi.

Coagulants

Coagulants- Raw water containing suspended particles (bacteria, turbidity, staining) which are too small to be deposited. By simple filtration those suspended particles can not be removed.Next step is access to the coagulation process. Chemical compounds, which are used for the destabilization of the particles in the process water clarification are known as coagulants.

Flocculants

Flocculants - polyelectrolytes. Anionic and cationic. Can be a liquid or a powder. Used for water clarification - flotation and flocculation, thickening agents and dehydration of sludge. They are used for water purification.
